What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is chronic widespread pain, felt above and below the waist, and felt on both sides of the body. It is due to excessive activity in pain pathways rather than a problem in the muscles. As well as pain, people with fibromyalgia often complain of:
- tenderness
- extreme tiredness (fatigue)
- muscle stiffness
- problems with sleeping pattern
- problems with concentration and memory (known as “fibro-fog”)
- headaches
- irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
