What is nociceptive pain?
Nociceptive pain is the medical term for pain that is due to activation of pain receptors (nociceptors) in the body. Nociceptors are activated by injury and inflammation, or by a stimulus that might injure the body. Nociceptive pain is the everyday acute pain that we all feel when we step on a thorn, burn a hand on a cooker, or get a sports injury. Sometimes in can be chronic, like in advanced osteoarthritis.
